The Resolution 1

by King Jesudunmo Longe

Obviously I am about to talk about the new year resolution, but first let me present to you a poem I wrote that has given a reasonable amount of people insight on this matter and insight into my humble perspective. It is titled the resolution.
BEFORE I CAME TO MY SENSES OR PARDON ME

I SHOULD SAY BEFORE I CAME TO ACKNOWLEDGE

HUMAN CONSTRAINTS AND DEFINITIONS

EVERY DAY BE TO ME, A DAY AND EVERY NIGHT BE A NIGHT

I KNEW TODAY BECAME YESTERDAY AND THERE WAS ALWAYS A TOMMOROW

WHICH N’VER SEEMED TO ARRIVE SO I COULD SAY “TODAY BE THE MORROW”

ONLY IF I HAD KNOWN THAT THE TOMMOROW OF YESTERDAY BE OUR TODAY

AND IN TODAY, ONE FINDEST WHAT ONE “N’VER KNOWS”

WHAT ONE’S YESTERDAY’S “TOMMOROW HOLDS”

BUT TO ME EVERYDAY BE A DAY, SPECIAL NOTHING.
SUGAR, SPICE AND EV’RYTHING NICE, CONTROLLED MY EXCITEMENT

NOW, CAME ON A DAY, SOME DRESS UP FOR ME AND CAKE FOR ALL

IT BE MY DAY! NAAY, A YEAR OLDER I WAS!!! SAVE THE DATE, I DID

NEXT THEY SAID, IT BE THE BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS OF LORD BABY JESUS’

DAYS AND DAYS BE FILLED WITH MERRY RED, WHITE, SINGING GALORE

TO ME TIS BE A LOT OF DAYS, BUT THEY SAID EVEN GOD GOT JUST A DAY

AND ALTHOUGH OLDER HE GREW NOT, I SAVED THE DATE, I UNDERSTOOD

BUT ANOTHER DAY OF CELEBRATION CAME, NO GOD OR HUMAN WAS BORN

SAID THEY THAT IT WAS THE BIRTH OF A NEW YEAR AND THE DELIVERY ROOM??

IN OUR HEADS, MINDS AND RIGHT BEFORE OUR EYES
BUT I SAW IT NOT, IT WAS STILL A DAY TURN NIGHT TO ME, NOTHING SPECIAL

THE DAY STRIPPED HERSELF OF HER CLOTHES, LET HER SUN SHINE… AS USUAL

I ALWAYS FELT MY BIRTHDAY SHOULD BE MY NEW YEAR, NO ONE AGREED

SINCE BEAT THEM I COULD NOT,

I JOINED IN SHOUTING THE AGED COUNTING CHORUS “HAPPY NEW YEAR”

THEN I WATCHED AS MEN STRUGGLED TO THE YEARLY FINISH LINE

PANTING AND PACING TO MEET THE WORLD’S TURNOVER DEADLINE

IN AN ADULT CHILDHOOD MOMENT, I DISCOVERED THIS

A YEAR IS TWELVE MONTHS… PLAN… IT NEED NOT BE NEW

LOOSE LIMITS… A YEAR AGO NEED NOT BE JANUARY TO DECEMBER
