YOU MADE ME RAPE YOU!

I was reading an article about rape online and I was happy about the point the writer was making. Scrolling down after reading the article, I stumbled on some comments and was quite impressed  till I saw a coment that left me dazed

It was from someone who is supposedly meant to be ” educated” and he said in summary that: “Indecent dressing is the cause of rape. If indecent dressing is stopped, there would be no rape. ”

I was so shocked.  I had to write about it.

As a person, I try to be as objective as possible when reading opinions of people. When I have to make a comment on another’s opinion (which I believe each and every person is entitled to); I try my best not do it de haut en bas.

I MUST state  however that I was dissapointed by the comment and to state otherwise would be to lie blazingly.

A screenshot of the comment is inserted below:

He said:

You can always be blamed.Indecent dressings says: here I am , come and rape me.If you disagree, check RCCG manual on Rape.Sunday school. Have you heard of a girl in purdah getting raped? no siree.Rape is caused by lust of the sight.Once there’s nothing to see, rape stops.Thank you.

P.s. : I replied him. Screenshot is inserted below

But really though!

Is INDECENT DRESSING  really the cause of rape?

Let us examine the two concepts we are dealing with here : “rape” and “Indecent dressing”

What is  indecent dressing?

According to People’s Daily, Indecent dressing can be defined as

“the wearing of cloths that are not appropriate for a particular occasion or situation, it means deliberate exposure of one’s body to the public, the practice opined is contrary to the acceptable norms and values of the society.Indecent dressing can as well be defined as a social malady that cuts across many countries of the world, but answer.com described indecent dessing as a way that is likely to shock or offend people.”

What is rape

The act of forcing sexual intercourse upon another person without their consent or against their will; originally conceived as a crime committed by a man against a woman, but now often extended (under various legal systems) to include other kinds of forced sexual activity by persons of either sex.

– To force sexual intercourse or other sexual activity upon (someone) without their consent.”

Here is my reply to him :

“Wow. I am stunned at this response.

A lot of women in Purdah are raped; so don’t you say indecent dressing is the cause of rape. Lust of the sight? Mass rape that occurs in war? All the women are indecently dressed? Kids that are raped? Indecent dressing too? PLEASE  please please; secondary school girls that wear school prescribed uniforms get raped and house helps with long aprons get raped… A man that cannot control himself and his sexual desires is the SOLE reason for rape. Don’t ever blame a girl for getting raped. “

Before It looks like I’m jumping into conclusion

Let’s analyse the back up for his statement; “HIS CITED AUTHORITIES “: Firstly – Rccg Sunday School Manual and secondly – The Assumption that women in Purdah are not raped.

Without Prejudice to either religion,  Here is my counter argument :

  1. I don’t know what the RCCG Sunday School  manual says but I know that anything that contradicts the word of God (Bible) is null and void to it’s extent of it’s inconsistency… So what does the bible say?  “But if in the field the man finds the girl who is engaged, and the man forces her and lies with her, then only the man who lies with her shall die. “But you shall do nothing to the girl; there is no sin in the girl worthy of death, for just as a man rises against his neighbor and murders him, so is this case. “When he found her in the field, the engaged girl cried out, but there was no one to save her,” (Deut. 22:25-27 ).  This shows that the bible puts no blame in the victim of a rape incident and here prescribes a death penalty . READ 2SAM 13 about Tamar’s case…  I wonder how? ” indecently dressed” she was that her “brother” had to rape her..     The Bible is not silent about rape. The accounts of sexual assault against women are heartbreaking, even gruesome. But they are not brushed under a rug or hushed up. In fact, of the three accounts describing a woman who was sexually assaulted, each of them precipitated civil war. When Jacob’s daughter, Dinah, was violated by the son of a neighboring ruler, Shechem, her brothers murdered him, his father, and the all of the men of his city in revenge (Gen 34). After the Unnamed Concubine was gang-raped and left for dead by men in the tribe of Benjamin, the other tribes went to war against them upon hearing of her injustice (Jgs 1921). And after Tamar was raped by her half-brother, Amnon, her brother Absalom killed him, and incited a rebellion against his father, King David (2 Sm 13). Rape was neither covered up nor ignored. Instead, it was answered and avenged. It was such a cultural convulsion that it was answered with outrage and further violence. The cases of rape in Scripture tell us something about the cases of rape we are hearing today: These women must be heard and they must be protected.” – culled from BIBLICAL WOMAN
  2. Women in Purdah are raped;  Islamic countries with strict rules on dressing still have high rape incidents as prior knowledge and  research has shown me that Rape incidence is quite high in Muslim Countries. SOME BACKUP  and Some more….  since the first argument is covering up guarantees safety…  And to this I say No!  If Rape occurs among the people with the most covered female standards –  Then… it really has nothing to do with dressing. It should however be mentioned that Islam punishes rape although proof is quite difficult.

If it about lust of sight, please it is your sight… you are the one seeing, and it is your desire and it can be controlled…

It is just sad that he gives indecent dressing as the sole cause of rape. It is impossible  that this is so…. especially because indecent  dressing is so subjective…  that what is tenable in a society might not be in another and if people are still raped in Purdah countries, then rape has nothing to do with dressing altogether.

Are these girls indecently dressed? Before it leads us into an argumentative blackhole; let me end this post.

Finally NOBODY SAYS:

“Here I am,  come and Rape me “

Rape is essentially determined by lack of consent! You cannot say here I am, come and have (sexual intercourse with me without my concent).  It is just a cyclic reversal!

Once she says No, or implies NO  AT ANY POINT – Then please control  yourself.

I want comments; what is your opinion? Let me know.

Thank you.

    kjd of life…
this is so true. rapists and others who share that perspective only look for a way to blame the victim, if you had not done this or done that… lol.

    1. Lol. Zobby. Thank you very much. Somehow it is not the fault of the rapist and it is the victim’s fault… Just HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN? HOW IS THAT ARGUMENT TENABLE IN THE MIND OF A RATIONAL PERSON… Thank you.
